Ben -

I'm sure a man of your considerable talents would find it rather easy to contribute much to the project. As to the massive codebase - it is well organized and isolated such as to not cause too much dismay when altering it. The massive codebase also comes with massive unit tests to help ensure that your changes aren't breaking it for others...

Good write-up! I've always wanted to contribute to NHibernate, but the massive codebase was always a bit of a deterrent. Maybe I'll give it another shot :)
